Anointing of the Sick

Christ’s healing presence for those facing illness, surgery, or the frailty of age.

Sacrament of Healing

Christ's Healing Touch

The Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament of healing — not a sign of death. Through it, the Church commends the sick to the suffering and glorified Lord, asking him to strengthen and save them.

This sacrament brings spiritual strength, peace, courage, and sometimes even physical healing. It unites the suffering person to Christ’s own passion, for the good of the person and of the whole Church.

Who Can Receive This Sacrament?

“Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.”

1 John 1:9

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this only for those who are dying?

No. This is one of the most common misconceptions. Anointing of the Sick is meant for anyone who is seriously ill, facing major surgery, or struggling with the frailty of old age. One need not be near death.
